Heim-HauryIndiana Landmarks > Heim Haury House

Sandstone house offers rock-solid investment
In the late 1800s, coal, cotton, and easy access to the Ohio River made Cannelton a bustling commercial center. Although now much less industrial, the town remains an active hub on the Ohio River scenic byway. Indiana Landmarks offers a charming property in the historic community, the c.1845 Heim-Haury House.

Local legend holds that a stonemason who worked on the impressive St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church used leftover sandstone to construct a Greek Revival-style townhouse at 109 Seventh Street (SR66). When demolition threatened the deteriorated and vacant house, Indiana Landmarks bought the building.

Grants from the Efroymson Family Fund, a Central Indiana Community Fund, and the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service’s Historic Preservation Fund (administered by the Indiana Division of Historic Preservation and Archeaology) have allowed us to restore the exterior of the house and stabilize the interior.

Improvements include a new roof and guttering, new wooden windows, stone restoration and cleaning, foundation and structural repairs, exterior painting, rebuilt floor systems on the first floor and part of the second floor, and site drainage improvements.

The home is available through Indiana Landmarks’ Fund for Landmark Indiana Properties (FLIP II), offered with protective covenants to a buyer who can finish its rehabilitation within a reasonable time table (typically 12 months). Prospective buyers should make an offer they believe is feasible to accomplish the project.
