The Cannelton River Trail greenway was dedicated with a ribbon cutting in October 2012 in conjunction with the 175th birthday celebration of the city of Cannelton. Children from Cannelton City Schools were the first to try out the trail. (pictured here)

The 1,770-foot paved trail runs parallel to the Ohio River and the city's floodwall. It starts at Hafele Park and ends at the Herzelle Street opening of the Floodwall. The trail offers nice views of the river in a quiet park atmosphere.

The trail was made possible by an Indiana Tourism Development Place-Based Investment Fund Grant. The half-match grant of $50,000 was awarded in May 2012 with work starting immediately. Match monies were raised by the Perry County Greenway, City of Cannelton, Cannelton Foundation, Perry County Convention and Visitors Bureau, and private donations from citizens.

The Indiana Department of Tourism recognized the fact that the RiverWalk will enhance Cannelton’s tourist appeal as well as be an asset to the citizens of Cannelton in terms of their health and their enjoyment of their hometown and the Ohio River.
